Tim Begeman 1992 – 1994

1990 was our last year at a state camp and 1991 brought a big change to our youth camp. We moved to the Nazarene District Center at Howell, MI. The camp is not isolated like the state camps with just us as a community. The Nazarene camp has permanent campers and houses that have residents. They are free to walk through at any time. The first year it was hard to get used to but our camp has boundaries and we seem to be able to compensate for the situation. We have a beautiful dining room overlooking the lake, air-conditioned meeting hall and the "old folks" can have comfort to sleep in. We do not have to haul equipment and that sure means a lot.

1992 brought a new director in Tim Begeman with wife Diane joining him as secretary. Don had been the director for many years with only one year (1986) off during that time. 1970 to '91 is a big stint for anyone. He and David had been the directors (they both said they did not do it alone!) for all the years of camp. Judy had assisted Don and had to retire due to health problems. How can we say thanks? Once more young people stepped in to take up the banner.

1990 was a very special year as we had such enthusiastic young men and women under the direction of Jon Lane as head of the cabin captains. The camper who influenced the whole camp was Trent Begeman. The others all joined in to boost all our spirits. Can anyone ever forget "The Champion" performed by Trent's cabin of boys? He was chosen as counselor of the year but even so it was a hard choice as all the young people were so great.

1991 Nature changed under the direction of Peggy Charles. Now nature is divided into five classes that rotate and do hands on activities. Some of the activities are: building a fire, cooking over a campfire, physical fitness, fishing etc. She enlists some of the younger staff to help.

Campfire for 1990 and 1991 were in Diane's capable hands and then in 1992 Mike took over. He is famous for his top ten list each night. Nurse Melinda Begeman is so thankful for Nurse Kathy Hess joining in to help in that department with Peggy taking night duty. Melinda and Kathy are also crafters!

Crafts: Magazine holder, book rack, small stools, shelf under Dale, Sally and Don's direction and baskets under Diane's direction.
